SAMAJEL B'ATZ'

We are 55 women, living in eight villages in Nebaj, who make up the association Tejidos Ixiles (Unq'a Chem Ixil). Our group began in 1988 in Las Violetas, Nebaj, in the province of El Quiché, and was legally constituted in 1995. We produce traditional weavings on backstrap looms, using figures that are particular to our villages. Our organization aims to preserve the designs and techniques that form part of the Ixil heritage, and generate income that will allow us dignified living conditions.
